Artist Statement:
In this crazed world, I have learned to slow down and notice beauty in the everyday world around me. I present these images to hopefully evoke a feeling, emotion or curiosity. Art it subjective and different people see different things. My hope is that these images move you or just amaze you.
Most of the pictures were taken during my daily walks in the neighborhood. Beauty in nature, as with humans, can be seen from many different angles. In capturing images, new perspectives show the many ways you can look at a familiar subject. In my work I try to capture a moment that captures the essence of what I have discovered. Two of the pictures featured are of an iris outside the A building in Park Terrace Gardens that I see every spring. The flower is gigantic and gorgeous, and I love looking at it closely. The beauty is so magnificent, it cannot be seen from only one angle.
Another image features a stunning sunflower from the sidewalk gardens in the neighborhood. It is fascinating to see the different stages of the development of the bloom with in each of its own distinct stages of beauty. As with people and nature, there is beauty in all stages of development.
As I photographed more over the years, I started to discover the joy of capturing the lines, shadows and movement in nature. Light and shadows enhance those lines and create images that are surreal and may not even look like the object photographed.
Overall, my artistic endeavor seeks to celebrate the beauty found in everyday observations and encourage others to see the world through a lens of appreciation and wonder.
